Portuguese megastar Cristiano Ronaldo has only all of 12 months remaining on his contract and his erstwhile super agent Jorge Mendes agent is plying him with options to potentially leave Man United for a second time around.
The Manchester United star has already indirectly slagged any chances of him shifting allegiance to Chelsea by admitting that he is ”happy’ to be where he is right at Old Trafford amid speculation that he is becoming agitated with the transfer activity of the Red Devils.
The United forward registered a total of 27 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils last summer and has 12 months remaining on his current deal. It has been circulating that United’s lack of transfer ambition showed so far in this summer’s window has not pleased the six-time Ballon d’Or winner as negotiations are dragging on irresolutely with Barcelona over the signing of Frenkie de Jong.
That aside, new manager Erik ten Hag also seems to be struggling to get other targets he is familiar with out of his former club Ajax over the coming weeks as the current Dutch champions have already transacted a number of their key stars this summer with Sebastian Haller’s move to Borussia Dortmund now producing a knock-on effect on the futures of those in ten Hag’s cross-sights like Jurrien Timber, Arsenal target Lisandro Martinez and Spurs-linked Antony. Ajax are expected to stand firm and not let any more of their key stars leave unless exorbitant sums are involved.
According to The Athletic, the report is out that new owner Boehly met with Ronaldo’s agent Mendes in Portugal last week to discuss a number of topics, with Ronaldo’s future being one of the things discussed as the understanding is that Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling is currently the main attacking priority being pursued by Chelsea but with the prospect of Ronaldo surfacing, that plan is easily subject to change.
For the moment the man himself has admitted that he is ‘happy’ where he is, rubbishing any potential Chelsea transfer talk, as the 37-year-old has apparently also been looking forward to anew improved lease of life for the club under ten Hag next season.
“I was and still am very happy to be here,” he said in a recent interview. “I know (ten Hag) did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time and things need to change the way he wants.
“I hope we have success. I wish him the best. We are happy and excited. Let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies. I believe that Manchester [United] will be where they belong. Sometimes it takes time, but I still believe.”
