Jack Grealish is edging closer to joining Manchester City from Aston Villa with the British record £100million deal allegedly on track to be completed by the weekend.
It has been reported that he Villa playmaker has returned to training this week at a west London location but the understanding is that the transfer is still expected to go through in the coming days, possibly before City face Leicester at Wembley in the Community Shield, according to Sportsmail.
Grealish is believed to have held further discussions with Villa chiefs this week and there is growing acceptance at Villa that he is resolute in his desire to depart, resulting in the club continuing to monitor Tammy Abraham as the club plans for life going forward without the 25-year-old.
Chelsea are willing to sell Abraham – also a target for Arsenal – for about £40m and Villa have kept him on the radar after he scored 26 goals in all competitions while on loan in 2018-19 to help them win promotion via the play-offs.
Apart from setting their sights on a pacy forward, Villa are also thought to be looking for a versatile attacking midfielder and a holding player, while they continue to retain an interest in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.
Villa have been noticeably busy in the market this summer, having signed Emiliano Buendia from Norwich for a club-record fee that escalate to about £38m, and Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen for £23m, as well as bringing back Ashley Young 10 years after the former England international left Villa Park to join Manchester United.
