Now that the La Liga has kicked off and the action coming on thick and tense, it appears that Sergio Ramos’ motivation for playing is shifting from defending the Real Madrid goalmouth to defending his monthly bankable assets.
According to MARCA as per Football Espana, the seasoned Los Blancos captain feared by rivals for his aggressive devil-may-care hard tackles on the pitch is gravitating away from renewing his contract with the club as they appear to be either unable or unwilling to accommodate his salary demands.
Although turning 35 in March and seeking a two-year renewal deal, Ramos expects to be paid no less than any other of his highly-paid peers. Unfortunately Real president, Florentino Perez, is allegedly disinclined to share the same view.
A galvanizing force and intimidating presence on the pitch, there have yet been instances when the centre-back with the no-holds-barred attitude has looked completely ill at ease, which could account for why Perez won’t accede to his captain’s wishes.
That aside, there’s also an across-the-board salary reduction to help offset the finances that have been lost because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Which is probably why the Los Blancos skipper responsible for manning the defense is eyeing the possibility of a Premier League club offering him the short-term deal he deservingly seeks before he hangs up his boots for good.
