Robert Lewandowski surpasses Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win Fifa’s The Best award

Bayern Munich marksman Robert Lewandowski edged Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win Fifa’s The Best award, as per Diario Sport.

The Polish striker was key in helping Bayern clinch the treble last season – the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League, besides being also the top scorer in each of these tournaments.

Messi and Ronaldo have won four of the five similar awards since they were created in 2016, with Ronaldo winning it for the first two years while Messi won the last two. Madrid playmaker Luka Modric was the only other winner in 2018.

Lewandowski, 32, has received the award after a long and successful career in the Bundesliga, winning eight titles there – six with Bayern and two with Borussia Dortmund.

The talented striker represented Poland 116 times, scoring 63 goals and representing his country in the 2012 and 2016 (where they reached the quarter final) European Championships as well as the 2018 World Cup.
