Borussia Dortmund hopes of winning Bundesliga title this season is all gone after losing 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Bayern Munich, but that doesn’t mean coach Lucien Favre will be sacked this season.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said Lucien Favre has guided his team in satisfying manner and believes in his leadership.
“At the moment there is no reason for a coach discussion,” CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told the Funke media group.
“We are playing a very, very good second half to the season. Until Tuesday, we had got 27 of a maximum 30 points.
“I think Lucien has been very focused in the past weeks,” Watzke said. “He does not leave the impression of a man under pressure.”
The result left Dortmund seven points behind in second place and can only hope for Bayern to slip up in the next six games.
If all goes as usual, Dortmund will be without silverware for a second season in a row under Favre, after being eliminated in DFB-Pokal and Champions League.
Favre said he would be speaking about the situation with Dortmund board in a few weeks, but he refused to give up this season.
“I don’t think about giving up. What I had wanted to say is it is not the time now to take stock,” Favre told WAZ newspaper.
“We still have six games to play and we want to give it our best.”
