Sir Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool legend, tests positive for Coronavirus

Sir Kenny Dalglish has tested positive for coronavirus while in hospital for treatment of a different infection.

The 69-year-old Liverpool legend was admitted to hospital on Wednesday for a course of intravenous antibiotics and, in line with current procedures, underwent a test for Covid-19 despite displaying no symptoms of the illness.

The test was positive and the Scot, who remains asymptomatic (no signs of the disease), will remain in hospital for further treatment.

In 2009, football magazine FourFourTwo named Dalglish the greatest striker in post-war British football, and in 2006, he topped a Liverpool fans’ poll of “100 Players Who Shook the Kop”. He was signed to play for Liverpool from Celtic in 1980, as a replacement for Kevin Keegan, and he appeared 502 times, scoring 169 goals for the Merseysiders. He won 20 trophies with Liverpool, including 6 League titles and 3 European Cups.

From 1985-1990 he was player manager for Liverpool FC, and after he resigned, the team has never won another League title.
