Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool can’t join a party yet

Liverpool recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Manchester United to go 16 points clear but Jurgen Klopp said while he is happy for the fans, he can’t join a party yet at the moment.

Virgil van Dijk handed Liverpool the lead in the 14th minute before Mohamed Salah finishes off with a goal in the late second half.

After the final whistle, Liverpool fans joyously sang “we’re going to win the league” as the Reds close in on their first league title in 30 years.

“They can sing that,” said Klopp to BBC.

“I am not here to dictate what they sing. If our fans were not in a good mood now that would be really strange.

“Of course they are allowed to dream and sing whatever they want and, as long as they do their job in the moment we play, all fine. But we will not be part of that party yet.”

This is the 13th consecutive league win for Liverpool and they have now taken an incredible 64 out of 66 points available this season, having only dropped points when they drew at Manchester United in October.

The massive lead however, is something that Klopp doesn’t want to think yet.

“We are here to work. It is as simple as that. It is a very positive atmosphere but I have to stay concentrated.

“We play on Thursday against Wolves. I am only interested in that game and nothing else.”

Defeat for Manchester United means they are 30 points adrift from Liverpool and 5 points behind Chelsea, who currently occupied the last Champions League spot.
