Despite the fact that El Clasico has been rescheduled for Dec 18, there are still uncertainty over the match will be played after all.
According to Marca, a pro-Catalan independence group called Tsunami Democratic have threatened to block the streets around the Camp Nou with more than 20,000 people and there are already a reported 18,000 signed up.
The previous date was changed due to the increasing violent on the street who protested on the prison sentences toward the organisers of the Catalan independence referendum two years ago.
It should calmed the riot, but Tsunami Democratic wrote “we’ll see you on December 18” which imply an incoming threat on the day of the match.
“As has been explained in previous statements, this is an extraordinary situation that calls for extraordinary measures,” their statement said.
They explained that people will surround the stadium four hours before kick off, and that some of the protesters with tickets have received the relevant material to distribute.
Meanwhile Real Madrid have no plan to protest the game as they will travel to Barcelona on the day of the game.
Police force however, do not believe the match should be played due to the lack of sufficient officers to deal with the entire area around the stadium.
FC Barcelona are not saying anything, other than president Josep Maria Bartomeu said he is not worried.
“I think any peaceful act is compatible with a football match. “The control inside the stadium is the responsibility of the club. Fans are free to express what they want, there’s no restrictions.
“They can’t insult, but they can display any kind of symbolism as long as it is in a civic and peaceful way.
“It shouldn’t be postponed, there’s no reason for that.”
Authority should have treated El Clasico as a high risk match. They might need a neutral venue after all, to avoid any threat or violence during the game.
Something they could learn from Superclasico between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
