Erling Haaland remains optimistic about Manchester City’s prospects this season after marking his return from injury with a decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The Norwegian striker, who missed recent defeats to Real Madrid and Liverpool due to a knee issue, netted his 20th Premier League goal of the season to propel City back into the top four.
Haaland’s early strike came from a precise Jeremy Doku cross, securing a crucial win for Pep Guardiola’s side as they aim to finish strongly in what has been a challenging campaign. Reflecting on his return, the 24-year-old said, “It’s good to be back. It’s been a horrible week, but that’s life. You have to look forward and stay positive because we can still achieve things.”
The forward had been sidelined since February 15 after feeling discomfort during City’s match against Newcastle. Although scans showed no damage, Haaland continued to experience pain and was rested as a precaution. “As a footballer, all you want to do is play, but sometimes you have to listen to your body,” he explained.
Haaland nearly doubled his tally late in the game, but his second goal was disallowed for handball. Despite his frustration with the decision, he remained focused on the team’s success: “It should have been two, definitely. I think it was a big mistake to disallow it, but in the end, we won, and that’s what matters.”
City’s victory helped them recover from their recent struggles and move ahead of Chelsea into fourth place in the Premier League table. They now turn their attention to upcoming challenges, including an FA Cup fifth-round clash against Plymouth and their pursuit of silverware in the Club World Cup.
With Haaland back in form and determined to contribute, Manchester City will hope for a strong finish to the season as they balance domestic and international ambitions.
