Bayern Munich’s stance on contract decision changes after Harry Kane revelation

Bayern Munich has shifted its stance on Eric Dier’s contract, with discussions now underway for a potential extension until 2026. This comes after Harry Kane expressed his desire for his former Tottenham and England teammate to remain at the club. Initially, Dier’s future at Bayern seemed uncertain, but recent strong performances have placed him in contention for a longer stay.

Dier joined Bayern on loan from Tottenham in January 2024, and his move was made permanent shortly after he met a pre-agreed clause requiring a minimum number of appearances. His contract was initially extended to June 2025, but Bayern is now considering another year due to his improved form and contributions to the team. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that Dier is among three players currently in talks for new deals, alongside Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané.

Harry Kane, who has played extensively with Dier at Tottenham and for England, publicly praised his teammate’s patience and recent performances. “Eric’s been great… He’s come in the last couple of games and done really well, getting two clean sheets,” Kane said. He added that he would love to see Dier stay at Bayern but acknowledged the decision lies between the player and the club.

Dier’s recent form has been crucial for Bayern, especially as injuries to Dayot Upamecano have opened opportunities for him in the starting lineup. He has played every minute of Bayern’s last four Bundesliga matches and is expected to feature prominently in their Champions League quarter-final against Inter Milan. Head coach Vincent Kompany has reportedly been impressed by Dier’s contributions during this period.

The defender has made 38 appearances for Bayern since joining, following a nine-and-a-half-year stint at Tottenham where he played 365 matches. While his performances earlier in the season were criticized, his recent displays have earned praise from both teammates and club officials, making an extension increasingly likely.
