Jeremy Doku has given an insight to what Pep Guardiola told the Manchester City squad after their victory over Newcastle United.
Guardiola and his side advanced one step closer to winning an unprecedented back-to-back treble as they progressed to the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday and booked their tickets to Wembley with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad.
Bernardo Silva had the due honor by opening the scoring after 13 minutes when his deflected shot arced way over the goalkeeper and into the net.
The wily Portuguese playmaker then proceeded to double his tally shortly afterwards with another delightful deflection to secure his brace.
Jeremy Doku revealed post-match what Guardiola told the players afterwards. Speaking to BBC Football Daily, Doku said: “He wanted to congratulate us.
“He wanted to thank us because it’s not easy to play every three days and still be there winning games and always to compete but we are doing it.
“We’re still in three competitions. Now it’s the international break and after we have some big games ahead.”
Guardiola has always been careful to ensure his side always maintains their hunger and drive, whilst preserving their on-pitch quality, which were clearly reflected in Saturday’s history-making win.
City have now become the first team in English history to reach the FA Cup semi-finals in six successive years, with the Spaniard being the only manager to win it twice but will no doubt be looking to make it a third this year.
City continue to do sensational things and it would be improbable to rule out another treble.
