Ange Postecoglou gives four-word response when asked if Spurs are in the title race

Spurs have ended 2023 with a bang, currently sitting just one point below Arsenal and six behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Ange Postecoglous’s side ended 2023 on a high with a 3-1 win against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve with goals from Pape Sarr, Son Heung-min and Richarlison moving them to within striking distance of the top four.

With this latest development the Gunners have earned the right to be considered serious title challengers to Manchester City and Liverpool this season.

The question of whether Spurs are now in the title race was put to Postecoglou after the Bournemouth win and also if ending the year in the title race was a good way to see out 2023, the Australian replied with a brilliant four-word response: “Yeah we’re going alright.”

Despite continuing to contend with injuries, Spurs will now also be losing captain and top scorer Son to the Asian Cup, while Sarr and Yves Bissouma will be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations. The shot in the arm is that Micky van de Van and James Maddison are both nearing returns.

Pushed further on whether Spurs are in the title race, Postecoglou said: “Well, not according to everybody. But we are only three points off the top, so we’re going OK.”
