Manchester United seem to be on the receiving end of another snub as their frontline priority transfer target Harry Kane is allegedly favoring a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich this summer, reports German journalist Florian Plettenberg.
England skipper Kane – the club’s all-time top goalscorer who ended with a personal best 30 in the Premier League last season – has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming transfer window, with the 29-year-old fully aware of the gnawing fact that he has yet to win a trophy in his career. On top of this, Spurs also fell short in their efforts the last season to qualify for Europe, finishing eighth in the Premier League after a promising earlier run under Antonio Conte.
Kane is understandably not short of admirers as a number of top clubs have been linked with keen interest to sign the Three Lions captain, with Manchester United being prime among them.
Expectations are that Kane would stay in the Premier League in his pursuit to overtake Alan Shearer’s all-time goal record. Having currently amassed 213 goals, he needs another 47 to match the Newcastle United legend.
However, it may not be that simple if Kane does indeed is predisposed towards staying in the Premier League as Spurs club chairman Daniel Levy would not be expected to be accommodating and sell their talisman to a rival English club foreign club but rather to a foreign club.
Despite still having a year left to go on his current contract, the hard-nosed, tough-negotiating Levy is likely to demand a nine-figure sum for Kane.
The England striker has apparently been in contact with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who have now been alerted to them being his preferred destination, as per journalist Plettenberg. The Bavarians are reportedly confident of reaching an agreement with Tottenham, and they hope to sign him for under €100m.
The Bundesliga juggernauts were run ragged last season with the title race going down to the wire in the final day. They were duly eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals for the third consecutive year.
A huge part of Bayern’s considerable drop-off has been attributed to the sale of th eir former talisman Robert Lewandowski as the Poland international was only too eager to make a beeline for Barcelona. Unfortunately for the Bavarians, his replacements have fallen short of expectations in filling his boots.
As such, a top-flight striker is Bayern Munich’s top priority this summer and Kane is said to be the main target in the crosshairs. As a backup plan, the likes of Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani have also been considered.
