Chelsea is apparently eyeing a transfer deal that the Reds may also be keen to be involved in, while Christian Pulisic continues to drift in limbo.
Liverpool are continuing to look for good value in the transfer market this summer while some of the other clubs around the Premier League are seemingly unconcerned to splash the cash with a lot less trepidation.
That reckless willingness to spend on transfers and wages is best exemplified by Chelsea, with co-owner Todd Boehly’s expensive habits leading to a few issues that will most certainly need to be ironed out this summer. Most assuredly, before the end of the month, the Blues would do well to hawk off some big-name players in order to help balance the FFP books.
Liverpool seem to be favoring Mason Mount and Levi Colwill except that the Stamford Bridge outfit has priced both players beyond the Reds’ means. However this stance could soften as the need to bring cash to moderate the FFP issue increases in urgency.
A lot more seems to be going on at Chelsea beyond what meets the eye as trigger-happy Boehly will no doubt sign even more players this summer. There is also a possible exit for the American, Christian Pulisic.
Although Liverpool has long been named as a possible destination for Inter midfield star Nicoló Barella, Chelsea allegedly are keen to attempt a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku, Corriere Dello Sport reports. Lukaku however is eager to remain at Inter with the Serie A side wanting another loan, but Chelsea see the opportunity to bring in Barella as part of the transfer agreement, with Mason Mount and Mateo Kovačić among the midfielders who could depart.
Liverpool.com says in response to this: “Chelsea would sign anyone and everyone if it could, but there is going to come a point where players decide not to go there because of the chaos. Barella would be better served joining a less wild project where he would have a better chance of translating his performances in Italy elsewhere.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Pulisic is free to leave Chelsea this summer with Mauricio Pochettino prepared to let him go, but Premier League clubs have so far been put off by his $256k (£200k/€234k) per week salary.
Pulisic, currently on international duty with the USMNT, has only made 54 league starts for Chelsea since signing from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window of 2019.
Liverpool.com has responded saying: At one stage, Liverpool was interested in a move for the US star, but the time has passed. He has had too many injuries in England and has not quite lived up to the billing yet. He is still only 24, so has plenty of time on his side, but his next move needs to be one where he can rebuild his reputation.
