Antonio Conte’s position as Tottenham boss is beginning to look ‘increasingly uncertain’ as it appears now that the club may not activate a 12-month extension on his contract.
Conte’s situation is starting to look less rosy as Spurs are experiencing a major slump in form, having won just three of their last nine Premier League matches and their latest outing being a 2-0 loss at home to the Gunners, who gallantly outplayed them.
As things stand, Conte will leave Spurs at the end of the season when his contract expires in the summer if the club does not exercise the option of extending it by another year.
The Daily Mail reports that Spurs’ current dismal form is a major cause for concern and could be a factor in determining Conte’s long-term future at the club.
The report further adds there is an understanding that it would be ‘self-defeating’ for ‘all parties’ to activate the extensions amid suggestions that Conte and the club’s visions are not in alignment, despite Conte guiding them to a fourth-placed finish last season after being appointed as head coach in November 2021.
The silver lining in the dark clouds is that Spurs are still in this season’s FA Cup and Champions League although their patchy league form has seen them go five points off the top four.
Unfortunately, failure to beat Manchester City on Thursday night would result in them drifting further away from Champions League qualification as fourth-placed and in-form Manchester United have a game in hand on them.
