Pep Guardiola leaks out new Man City exit plan admitting  “contract is just piece of paper”

Having put pen on paper on a contract extension with the club before the turn of the year to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2025, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola quaintly confessed a contract “is just a piece of paper,” less than six weeks after extending his deal.

The Catalan coach’s contract extension was penned in November barely a few short months after the Blues’ dramatic comeback on the final day of the season handed his team a consecutive Premier League.

The challenge now is to triumph for a third year in a row, although this would be easier said than done as a seemingly indomitable Arsenal are currently sitting seven points clear of the reigning champions after the weekend’s fixtures. Guardiola’s side unfortunately fell short at home to a resilient Everton on Saturday afternoon, after having initally surged ahead via Erling Haaland only for Demarai Gray to salvage a point for the visitors.

Arsenal however were sure of their footing when they travelled to Brighton later on that same day, storming ahead inside two minutes with a convincing victory to extend their leadership at the summit.

“The moment I feel something is wrong, I will resign or not renew my contract,” Guardiola said, per Marca. “I will not stay as [Sir Alex] Ferguson or [Arsene] Wenger.

“The contract is just a piece of paper. I extended my commitment to the club because I feel the team can still do it well under my leadership.

“In the end, it’s all about the result. If we get tired of each other, I’m not going to stay until the end because of the contract.”
