Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi scored a brace in the capital club’s lopsided 7-2 win over Maccabi Haifa in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes.
Along with his two goals, the 35-year-old also recorded two assists, and his stat total has put him elite category and reminds doubters that his 2021-22 season was indeed a fluke year.
On Twitter, OptaJean pointed out that Messi scoring two goals and recording two assists against Maccabi Haifa allows the Argentine to be the only player to achieve 10+ goals and deliver 10+ assists in all competitions among players in the Top 5 European leagues this season (both 10).
Messi’s production this season is back to what many expect from him and why PSG is reportedly discussing extending the veteran forward to ensure he doesn’t leave when his contract expires in June 2023.
The former Barcelona star appears comfortable and has formed chemistry with Kylian Mbappe, so all signs could be pointing to Messi being happy in Paris and opting to stay further than the two years he initially signed up for in 2021.
