Clearlake Capital Group’s, and new Chelsea co-owner, Todd Boehly is hosting a dinner for his peers and fellow executives of the rest of the Premier League clubs to introduce himself to the group before the new season kicks off, reports David Ornstein of the Athletic. After completing his takeover of Chelsea with his “Clearlake Capital” group back in May, Boehly has been busy raking the coals with the hectic transfer of power, along with conducting the team’s transfer business this window personally.
Boehly was also in attendance in LA recently where he observed firsthand pre-season training and continued to familiarise himself with the squad, the coaching staff and the proceedings. Credit should be given to him for having the gumption and the gall to take over the club at an awkward time, and it obviously feels like he’s still playing catch-up.
The timing fits and the slot has already been fixed as the entire retinue of Premier League shareholders will convene in London on Tuesday for their latest meeting, and Boehly’s dinner engagement will be consummated later that evening.
Apparently the gesture has been “well received” by the other owners. Well, frankly, no one minds a free dinner and to raise a glass or two.
