An incensed Leeds fan fears relegation from the Premier League would be forthcoming with ‘clown’ Marcelo Bielsa continuing to be in charge of the club.
Danny, who is quite likely the only Leeds fan in the world who would never be accused of over-rating Bielsa, was left fuming after their 5-1 mauling at Manchester United.
Safe to say it was definitely a disastrous day for the Whites, who collapsed incomprehensibly at Old Trafford, after Luke Ayling’s stunner made it 1-1 on 49 minutes, but by the hour mark Leeds were 4-1 down at Old Trafford.
It’s almost a case of deju vu as the Whites have had miserable outings at Man United’s home ground ever since returning to the top flight, having lost 6-2 in the same fixture last season.
And Danny is bristling with unabated fears that there won’t be a trip to the Red Devils next term and desperately urged the club to hire ‘someone like Sam Allardyce’ to immediately shore up the crumbling defenses.
“This is a bad defeat, we haven’t learnt anything from last season. Last season was a bad defeat losing 6-2,” Danny told GameDay – Your Verdict.
United talisman Bruno Fernandes thrilled the home crowds with a hat-trick, while there were also goals from Mason Greenwood and Fred.
“We’ve just been embarrassed in front of 75,000 people and those watching worldwide to our biggest rivals 5-1.
“I’m sorry but it isn’t good enough. I believe if we stick with this clown [Bielsa] in charge we will get relegated.”
Host Faye Carruthers immediately asked Danny to clarify if he really referred to Bielsa, who got Leeds back into the Premier League after a 16-year absence, as a ‘clown’.
“Judging by the performance, 100 per cent,” Danny responded. “We need someone in like Big Sam, who’s going to tighten up at the back.”
What are the chances of Bielsa compromising on his tactics?
Carruthers’ co-host Gabby Agbonlahor didn’t use to the same yardstick as Danny to assess the Argentine coach but believes a massive re-think is needed by Bielsa for when they play the bigger teams.
“Leeds need to change their tactics for different games and they’ll get better results,” Agbonlahor said. “How can you lose 6-2 last season and have the same tactics this season?
“It’s naïve from Leeds. Pushing too many bodies forward, allowing Manchester United to have that many players go forward.
“You have a Mason Greenwood one vs one, Paul Pogba one vs one, Bruno Fernandes running through the midfield with no one following him.
“It doesn’t make a lot of sense and Leeds are going to get a lot of these defeats this season if they still play like that. You have to change your tactics for each game.
“It’s different if you’re playing Norwich, they’d probably get away with that. When you’re playing Manchester United, the first home game of the season, they’re always going to be on the front foot. Leeds need to change the way they play against bigger teams.”
