The news is buzzing that Tottenham’s Daniel Levy has already initiated moves to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to North London, and the current PSG manager is reportedly keen on a return only if two conditions are met.
While this has been ongoing, there has also been interest shown by others in the former Spurs boss, with Real Madrid now wondering if the 49-year-old would make an ideal snappy replacement for Zinedine Zidane, who sauntered out of the Santiago Bernabeu this week cool as the proverbial cucumber.
According to AS, Poch’s relationship with Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has taken a tumble of late, with the coach miffed that his say in sporting decisions has been greatly curtailed.
With this ongoing scenario of discontent brewing, Spurs and Real Madrid are both hopeful that Pochettino could be tempted to leave the Parc des Princes this summer, despite his contract running until 2022.
Pochettino apparently has laid out two big conditions that would have to be met for him to return to Spurs, with the first being a long-term contract to match a long-term project, preferably a deal lasting at least four years. Additionally, there should be an “armored link” in the contract to protect against being sacked in the middle of the season. However whether that is feasible or not is another matter.
The second of Pochettino’s conditions would be for him to enjoy “full powers” over sporting decisions – something he obviously does not currently have at PSG and something any coach would give an arm for.
Things did not end well for the dynamic, enterprising coach at Spurs, and he believes he has “unfinished business” at the club to settle.
Now it is all up to chairman Daniel Levy to put everything together for a reunion if the hard-nosed maverick negotiator can accept his former head coach’s terms of engagement.
