Jose Mourinho confirms ‘amazing’ Spurs player is back in training, optimistic for Sunday

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, confirming Gareth Bale is back in full training, is optimistic that the on-loan Spurs star will be fine to feature in Sunday’s Premier League encounter.

Bale was noticeably missing in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace with illness, and was also absent on Wednesday evening as the team fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Liverpool, a result which saw Tottenham drop into second place in the table.

The Welshman, on loan from Real Madrid, wasn’t able to join his teammates outdoors ahead of the trip to Anfield but, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester clash, Mourinho was able to give a positive update on the player.

“He’s fine,” the Portuguese told Football London. “Trained yesterday with the team, trained today with the team. Looks ok. So if tomorrow, he does it normally like he did normally in the last two days, he’s fine.”

The Tottenham squad will definitely receive a much-needed boost with Bale’s return as Mourinho prepares to steer his team back to winning ways following their defeat at the Merseyside during the week.

Spurs’ loss to Liverpool was by no means disgraceful and, had it not been due to some wastefulness in front of goal, the Portuguese’s side could’ve easily emerged victorious, so there’s certainly optimism for the team going forward.

The timely return of a player who, in Mourinho’s own words, “has been amazing” since arriving at the club will hopefully be a vital link in putting the midweek loss firmly behind them.
