Penang gain promotion to the Super League next season with three games remaining after maintaining an unbeaten record in the Premier League this season.
The success of the squad also aided by the result of Negeri Sembilan who was held goalless draw with Perak II last Saturday while UKM FC only drew 2-2 against Terengganu FC II and Kelantan who lost 0-2 to Kuching FA.
“I am very proud of this achievement,” Penang head coach, Manzoor Azwira said.
“Credit should be given to all players including the management and the state government who always give us the support.”
However, Manzoor Azwira said he is aiming to end the Premier League season as champion.
“For the remaining matches, we will give our best and reward with success which is to emerge the Premier League champions this season.
“After all, Penang has never been a Premier League champion and this is the best opportunity to do so,” he said.
Harimau Kumbang squad has been at the top of the Premier League with 20 points from eight matches, followed by the Kuala Lumpur with 17 points in second place, JDTII with 14 points, Terengganu FC II with 13 points and Kelantan with 11 points.
The top two teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Super League, the last time Penang played in the top-flight was in 2017.
Penang gain promotion to the Super League last season, but the celebration was cut short after Malaysian Football Association (FAM) decided to deduct six points at the request of FIFA for failure to settle unpaid salaries involving former player, Reinaldo Lobo.
Due to the decision, Penang is forced to remain in the Premier League, while Sabah and UiTM gain promotion to the Super League.
