Man United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening in their penultimate game of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
Meanwhile, former United boss David Moyes has landed himself in somewhat of a stir with Old Trafford’s legions of fans.
Moyes had been appointed Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in 2013 after an impressive 11-year-spell with Everton, and immediately inherited a side that had won the Premier League the previous season but inadvertently failed to live up to expectations having taken over the mantle of leadership from Fergie.
Truth was that the Scottish head coach didn’t even last a full year at Old Trafford, having been unceremoniously given the boot by United’s board in April 2014 following a slump in form, with United sitting seventh at the table then with four games remaining, well adrift of a place in the Champions League.
In contrast under current conditions, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently fifth in Premier League, tied with Leicester City on 62 points, fresh from a campaign that saw then rack up successive wins with only two games left to play in the campaign. The Norwegian’s side were unbeaten in 19 games and will be looking to bounce back from a deflating and totally unexpected defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals when they face the Hammers tomorrow.
Unsurprisingly, many United fans slammed former manager Moyes as being “delusional” on social media, with one supporter calling him “trash” and another saying that he was “awful” at Old Trafford.
That’s the cutthroat world of competitive football at the highest levels. Your brilliant, spotless past track record is hastily thrown out the window. It’s your current fumbles that are remembered, unforgiven and matter most of all.
