Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s statue has been vandalised on numerous occasions, but this time Malmo fans have finally able to topple the statue, Swedish police reports.
The statue had collapsed against the barrier protecting it, with its feet partially chopped off from the original position.
It was the latest act from Malmo fans who were disappointed with Ibrahimovic’s decision to invest at rival club Hammarby, as the statue was erected to honour him at Malmo, the club he begin his professional career.
“I can understand that many people are disappointed in Zlatan’s behaviour but vandalising a statute is simply unworthy. Better to express your dissatisfaction in a democratic way,” Malmo deputy mayor Frida Trollmyr told AFP.
It is reported that a citizens’ initiative to move the sculpture will be considered in February.
A spokesman for the Malmo municipality later said the statue had now been removed and will be repaired.
Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic is set to make his debut for AC Milan in Serie A on Monday after signing a six-month contract with the Serie A side last week.
