Former Everton manager Sam Allardyce is stumped by the constant injury struggles that Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered from in recent times, limiting the Toffees star to just 12 Premier League appearances this season.
The 26-year-old got in his first league appearance since early February in the goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday, 22 April.
“They can’t score at the front end,” Allardyce said on talkSPORT.
“Calvert-Lewin has had so many injuries yet again, I don’t know why, but it’s a big problem at the football club why he’s been injured as often and as long as he has.”
Undoubtedly a very talented striker, the Everton star is closing in on 60 goals during his time at the club despite that time having had massive disruptions due to various injury issues, particularly with knee and hamstring problems forcing him off the pitch this season.
As such, this had led to the striker being unable to show his mettle to manager Sean Dyche, scoring just one goal from his 13 matches in all competitions this season. The situation has been a very frustrating for both the player and the manager and not least the fans, who are well aware of how much the striker could have aided their cause on the pitch this campaign.
With the Toffees in dire need of his goals given their precarious standing in the table, the hope is that all goes well and Calvert-Lewin can stay fully fit and rediscover his form as the Merseyside outfit currently occupy 19th spot in the Premier League standings ahead of their forthcoming encounter with a dominant Newcastle on Thursday, 27 April.
