Like a bright shooting star suddenly flashing across a panoramic night canopy dotted with a celestial constellation of stars, a word has been released out of the blue from the English media on Saturday night, not unlike an oracle, pointing towards Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers being lined up to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.
The managerial hotseat at Old Trafford has of late again been one of the primary subjects occupying centre stage in the media for several weeks now as the pressure continues to mount on its heavily-beleaguered, incumbent manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Norwegian Solskjaer has unfortunately been the overseer responsible for a shockingly unimpressive opening, to put it mildly, to the season for Manchester United, despite the summer arrivals of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.
A 2-0 defeat at the hands of cross-town rivals Man City last time out means that United entered the latest international break sitting 6th in the Premier League table, a full nine points adrift of table-topping Chelsea.
That aside, the Red Devils have also been ousted unceremoniously from the Carabao Cup, besides requiring the histrionics on the part of the aforementioned Ronaldo to remain in contention for a spot in the knock-out rounds of the Champions League.
These woeful twists and turns have seen calls even amongst the United faithful mounting for the club’s gaffer to be given the send-off, so as to make room for a manager with a more proven track record. Going by the strength of the latest word doing the rounds in the media late on Saturday night, if it holds any truth, then those desiring change in the managerial hot-seat could yet soon have their prayers answered.
In short, a report from The Sun alleges that Brendan Rodgers has begun house-hunting in Manchester, with the Leicester City boss understood to be ‘looking for a new family home in football’s jet-set areas of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge’.
This fascinating morsel of news comes as Rodgers comes ever-closer to replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford as the Northern Irishman having been identified as the no.1 choice to replace Solskjaer by the powers that be at the Theatre of Dreams, according to Alan Nixon and Phil Thomas.
It is even suggested that Rodgers could be installed in the Red Devils dugout before the season reaches next month’s festive period.
