Concerns are growing within Manchester City’s dressing room over Phil Foden’s dip in form, with teammates reportedly noticing his apparent weight loss and struggles on the pitch. The 24-year-old, who was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season last term, has failed to score or assist in the Premier League for over two months, managing just seven goals and two assists across the entire campaign.
Foden’s recent performances starkly contrast with his standout contributions last season, and he has not completed 90 minutes for club or country in over a month. According to reports, City players have privately expressed concerns about his form, with some noting his weight loss and a possible relocation of his family out of Manchester.
The midfielder’s struggles have been compounded by his role on the left wing, a position he has found challenging this season for City and during last summer’s European Championship with England, where he was moved wide to accommodate Jude Bellingham. Despite remaining a regular under Pep Guardiola, Foden’s spot in the team is under scrutiny, with England head coach Thomas Tuchel emphasizing the need for impactful performances.
After England’s 2-0 win over Albania, Tuchel acknowledged Foden’s difficulties, stating, “Phil is just maybe not finding the momentum at the moment that he can have.” He added, “For Phil, it’s a difficult season at the club. He comes from several weeks where he does not find the rhythm that he found last season, so we called him up to show him our support and our love and commitment.” Foden played 74 minutes against Albania before being substituted and came on as a replacement in the following game against Latvia.
