Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly targeting Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao as a potential replacement for Marcus Rashford, who is unlikely to return after his loan spell at Aston Villa. Amorim, who previously coached Trincao at Sporting, is eager to reunite with the Portuguese international, who recently impressed by scoring twice in Portugal’s Nations League victory over Denmark.
However, United face competition from Barcelona, Newcastle United, and Arsenal for Trincao’s signature. Barcelona, in particular, hold a buy-back clause valued at just over £20 million, which could complicate United’s pursuit. Despite this, Amorim is optimistic that his prior relationship with Trincao could sway the player towards a move to Old Trafford. The 25-year-old, known for his versatility as a left-footed right winger who can also play on the left or centrally, has been in strong form this season, contributing significantly to Sporting’s campaign.
Meanwhile, United are preparing for a challenging Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on April 1, as they continue their push in the league standings.
