Liverpool opens 13-point gap as Arsenal held by Forest

Liverpool has significantly bolstered their position at the top of the Premier League with a decisive 2-0 victory over Newcastle United. This win, combined with Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, has opened up a substantial 13-point gap between the Reds and their closest challengers.

The match against Newcastle was marked by crucial goals from Dominik Szoboszlai in the 11th minute and Alexis Mac Allister in the 63rd. Szoboszlai’s goal came after a precise pass from Luis Diaz, while Mac Allister was set up by Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool has navigated a challenging sequence of fixtures, including a draw at Aston Villa and wins against Manchester City and Newcastle. This resilience suggests that only a dramatic collapse could prevent them from securing their 20th English league title.

Mac Allister emphasized the team’s drive to win trophies, stating, “I think the desire to win trophies is driving us on… We know that this season we maybe have the opportunity to win some, so we are really happy to work really hard and hopefully we can keep on going.”

Arsenal’s title aspirations suffered a significant blow following their loss to West Ham over the weekend. Despite manager Mikel Arteta’s determination to continue the chase, the draw at Forest further diminished their chances.

Liverpool now holds 67 points from 28 games, while Arsenal has 54 points with one game in hand. Nottingham Forest sits with 48 points.

Manchester City moved back into the top four after Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur. Haaland became the second player to score at least 20 goals in his first three Premier League seasons.

With Liverpool’s commanding lead and Arsenal’s recent struggles, the Reds appear well-positioned to claim the title, barring an unexpected downturn in form.
