Reports suggest that Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has an eight-figure release clause in his contract, potentially opening the door for a return to the Premier League.
Kane, 31, left Tottenham, his boyhood club, in 2023 to join Bayern Munich, seemingly putting an end to his aspirations of surpassing Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals.
However, it has now come to light that his transfer included a release clause that could facilitate a move back to England. According to Bild, Kane had the opportunity to trigger a release clause during the winter transfer window, allowing him to leave Bayern for approximately €80 million (£67 million). Although that deadline has passed, the clause will be valid again next winter, enabling him to transfer for around €65 million (£54 million).
Currently contracted to Bayern until June 2027, Kane is reportedly happy in Germany, thriving on the pitch and settling well with his young family. He seems focused on breaking more records and has opted not to activate his release clause this time around, indicating he will likely remain with Bayern for at least another year.
However, a return to England could be appealing in 2026 when Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record is within reach. Kane has netted 213 Premier League goals so far, leaving him 47 behind Shearer.
Additionally, a move to the United States could also be of interest to Kane, who has expressed admiration for American sports, including the NFL. As he approaches his 32nd birthday in July, Bayern is reportedly already considering potential successors should he decide to leave.
Bild indicates that club officials have discussed pursuing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško or Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres as potential replacements. Both players would come with a transfer fee of around €70 million (£58 million) but would command significantly lower wages than Kane’s current salary of approximately €25 million per year (£21 million).
As Kane continues to excel in Germany, speculation about his future remains high, with fans eager to see how this story unfolds.
