Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is obviously in a New York state of mind as he flew to New York to watch some basketball while many of his Premier League rivals were on England duty or supporting friends in Premier League or Championship football events.
Rashford had opted to make his presence felt in New York watching a basketball game between the Knicks and the Nets, with a video making the rounds of him leaving the arena, wherein he strolls to a people carrier wearing what resembles a dressing gown top, complete with hood pulled up, and sunglasses (at night time).
With also more bodyguards surrounding him than the number of goals he’s scored – 4 in 18 games – for Manchester United this season, Rashford looked like someone now completely swallowed up by his own celebrity. Someone who appears to have wandered into a maze he’s now lost, yet comfortable, in. One can’t help but wonder what sort of message does he think he’s sending to his new Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, if he indeed does care what he’s doing at all?
Cole Palmer, on the other hand by comparison, doesn’t seem to have forgotten his roots, despite his meteoric rise to becoming one of the best young players in Europe. Hence his trip to Edgeley Park.
Which could be a plausible explanation why Palmer is now starring for England, while Rashford has nothing better to do than mooch around New York acting like a deluded, forgotten legend in his own eyes.
