The Red Devils have already added Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro to bolster their squad strength and depth this summer, although the latter will be on the sidelines for three months nursing a foot injury.
This development has sen speculation arising that the club could pursue another center-back as a new central midfielder is seen to be another pressing need for United before the deadline is over.
When asked about the prospect of more signings, Ten Hag told reporters: “When we have news, we will announce it.
“You see the market is quite quiet still but we have done our business, we have done two deals.
“It is about timings and it is about the market options and [ensuring] in the right moment we do the right things.”
United have been busy engaging in talks for multiple midfielders over recent weeks, with Burnley’s Sander Berge and Monaco’s Youssof Fofana being among those those on their radar.
When pressed on the recent speculation linking the club with midfielders, Ten Hag added: “I don’t go into details where we are now with recruitment and what we are working on.
“We know what we are doing and I think we are in a good position with the squad.
“For you, just wait, be patient and in the right moment, we will tell you.”
The signings of Zirkzee and Yoro had triggeed off a great start for The Red Devils in the transfer window, although things have not gone according to plan with the latter ruled out for three months, leving the club now with no option but to sign another quality central defender. For this, Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt is apparently the priority on United’s radar.
This aside, another equally pressing issue is their glaring weakness in the heart of the midfield as Casemiro is now beyond his prime. The Brazilian managed to win only 28 percent of duels and lost possession 16 times against Liverpool this month.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte had initially been United’s number one target, but is unfortunately beyond budget. The club are now looking instead at Berge and Fofana as alternative midfield choices.
Solutions need to be found ahead of the new campaign. Noussair Mazraoui has been targeted as a right-back option but the deal is being delayed due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, whom the club has been planning to offload before they are able to recruit the Moroccan star.
The club need to expediently speed up the process for Mazraoui to be integrated into first-team training without any further delays.
