Moshiri has ‘washed his hands of the club’ while Everton hit by new transfer blow, says finance expert

With Farhad Moshiri having ‘washed his hands of the club’ since their points deduction, finance expert Kieran Maguire believes Everton will struggle to complete contract extensions or new transfers.

Maguire was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibilities of Everton struggling to complete deals on and off the pitch after their second PSR charge.

After publishing their 2022-23 accounts, a second charge is now hot on the heels of the Toffees’ 10-point deduction in November for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

If found culpable, a second points deduction could see Everton plummet into the mire of a relegation fight which would invariably affect their transfer business this month and in the summer.

Maguire believes Everton lack ‘certainty’ over their future to decide a budget for their contract and transfer deals.

“If Everton had more certainty, they would have a greater ability to come up with budgets and strategies,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“However, they have been left in a very confusing position, with one points deduction already given to the club and the potential for another if the commission finds them guilty.

“That will likely take place before the end of the 2023-24 season.

“Given that contracts will be expiring and up for negotiation, it really makes it very difficult for the senior management and also for players to commit to a long-term future.

“And with so much uncertainty surrounding the approach taken by the Premier League and the club’s ownership situation, it looks increasingly likely that Farhad Moshiri has washed his hands of the club.“
