‘Uber driver’ Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard speaks out after landing new job

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has landed a new gig after having been sacked by Aston Villa.

The Anfield legend Steven Gerrard had switched to management after after throwing in the towel on his playing career, and land the job of manager with the Rangers and subsequently with Aston Villa before he was dismissed from Villa Park in October.

Admittedly the 42-year-old has not been out of work for too long as football fans would have seen him recently on their TV screens after he had taken a job at Channel 4, analyzing England’s Gerrard recent games against Italy and Ukraine. The larger-than-life Liverpool icon had been expected to return to coaching, yet turned down reported offers from the Poland national team and Trabzonspor in Turkey, as he felt that it was time to take a punditry gig in the interim instead.

Gerrard was joined on his Channel 4 stint by former Chelsea winger Joe Cole and ‘I’m A Celebrity’ winner Jill Scott for the Three Lions’ European Championship 2024 qualifiers, presented by Jules Breach.

Mellowing with the times, Gerrard has since opened up on his experience of the time he spent at Aston Villa, as well as on looking for work following his dismissal from the club to be replaced by Unai Emery who now has the Villains competing for European football in the top half of the Premier League.

Gerrard also mentioned that while he has received offers to return to the dugout, he is actually enjoying his new job of being his children’s ‘Uber driver’ for the present.

“They gave me an opportunity in the Premier League and it was a successful experience initially because we achieved the remit of guiding the team away from the bottom of the table to safety,” said Gerrard about his decision to take the Villa job, as reported by ‘The Manager’ magazine from the League Managers Association.

“I’ve had time to analyse and reflect thoroughly on the challenges of our second season. In football, you have to learn from your mistakes and take strength from your successes. You have to reset, wait and be patient for the fire and fight to return.

“I’ve been offered opportunities to manage at club and international level since I left Villa, including an exciting opportunity in an overseas league, but none have been right for me at this time. In the meantime, I’m enjoying being an Uber driver for my girls and my little boy.”

As to whether Gerrard returns to management anytime soon still remains largely to be seen, so long as it’s a position in club football that could be juggled alongside his Channel 4 duties currently as an international gig would conflict with his broadcasting commitments.
