Leeds United entered the relegation zone for the first time this season after a 3-2 defeat at home to Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
The club, now winless in eight league games since their 3-0 win over Chelsea in August, are most uncomfortably ensconced in 18th place in the Premier League and are facing immense pressure with the heat focused on manager Jesse Marsch and his team.
The hosts had surged into the lead courtesy of Rodrigo’s fifth goal of the season, but Fulham were quick to level up when Aleksandar Mitrović headed in a corner from close range.
The second-half saw Fulham emerging the better side, taking the lead through Bobby Decordova-Reid’s 74th-minute header as Andreas Pereira delivered his second assist of the game.
Willian then sealed the game for the Cottagers when he slid in to finish in the 84th minute from Harrison Reed’s cut-back. Crysencio Summerville recorded his first senior goal for the club but it was not enough for Leeds to settle for a draw.
Noticeably a worrying statistic has has been blinking amber following the game’s conclusion as Opta are reporting that this is Leeds’ worst start to a season in 18 years, claiming:
“Nine – Leeds have collected just nine points from their 11 games in the Premier League this season – this is their fewest at this stage of a league campaign since 2003-04 (eight), when the Whites were last relegated from the Premier League. Ominous.”
Leeds have so far lost four of their last five games with things not looking at all like getting any easier, as they face Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City in three of their next four games as well.
As per a Tweet from Statman Dave, Leeds are winless in their last eight Premier League games, their worst run since Marcelo Bielsa was sacked.
