Norwegian goalscoring wizard Erling Haaland’s sensational debut month at Manchester City has seen him garner hands down the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.
The Norway striker has blazed his way into the Premier League early on after his much-heralded summer move from Borussia Dortmund, brazenly launching his Manchester City account on the opening weekend of the season with a superb brace away at West Ham United. The 22-year-old won and converted a penalty before sealing a 2-0 victory with a well-taken effort in the second half.
This was followed up with an assist in a slightly quieter outing against Bournemouth, after which the former Borussia Dortmund ace scored Man City’s second in a 3-3 draw at Newcastle United.
Remarkable as his earlier performances were, it was in the defending champions’ final two Premier League games of the month where Haaland really showed his true mettle. With Man City trailing 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace, the Viking wunderkind would score three of their four goals in an eventual 4-2 comeback win, netting his first hat-trick in English football. The towering striker repeated the feat days later, when he grabbed his second Man City hat-trick, scoring half of their goals in their 6-0 demolition of Nottingham Forest on the final day of August.
Haaland’s unstoppable blietzkrieg form has continued into September with strikes against Aston Villa, Sevilla and his former club Borussia Dortmund. Even now at this early juncture in the new season he has already reached double figures of goals in the Premier League and is four clear of second-placed Aleksandar Mitrovic in the scoring charts.
