Former Bayern Munich CEO Rummenigge says PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi shouldn’t be fired

There was an outrage among many journalists, pundits, and supporters clamoring for the sacking of president Nasser Al-Khelaifi After Paris Saint-Germain were tossed out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid.

In an interview with L’Equipe (via Paris Fans), former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge felt that Al-Khelaifi should not be ousted from his position following the Parisian giant’s elimination from the Champions League.

“You have to include the coach in strategic decisions while developing a game philosophy that matches the DNA of the club,” Rummenigge said.

“The president, the sports director, and the coach must be together in the project. Paris needs continuity at all levels and to achieve this, you need a technician who ensures balance. PSG has all the ingredients to become a club capable of marking its time.”

However, the former Bayern Munich chief did add that there are some areas the Parisian club could do with some improvement in targeting the Champions League. For one, he believes that the president, sporting director, and manager must all be on the same page. In addition, he said the French giants need to develop a playing style that carries the club’s identity.

“You have to include the coach in strategic decisions while developing a game philosophy that matches the DNA of the club. The president, the sports director, and the coach must be together in the project,” Rummenigge said.

“Paris needs continuity at all levels and to achieve this, you need a technician who ensures balance. PSG has all the ingredients to become a club capable of marking its time.”

Last but not least, Rummenigge’s one word of advice he would give Al-Khelaifi is for the PSG chief to exercise patience over the project, saying that winning the Champions League isn’t something that happens overnight regardless of the amount of money being invested to build a squad.

“If I have any advice for Nasser, it’s – ‘be patient.’ PSG have an exceptional workforce but they have no patience. PSG must understand that it is simply impossible to win C1 overnight, regardless of the investments made,” Rummenigge said.
