The PSG duo reportedly had an argument in the dressing room over individual errors which nearly turned violent.
Paris Saint-Germain’s embarrassing loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 led to ugly tempers flaring after the final whistle, with two Les Parisiens superstars, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Neymar, almost coming to blows with each other during a heated dressing-room altercation.
According to Marca, the frazzled Brazilian attacker was furious with the Italian goalkeeper for having botched up and inadvertently led to Los Blancos’ first goal and Neymar hence decided to confront his teammate in the dressing room.
While the French giants were 1-0 up and clearly in full control by the hour mark, Benzema caught the former AC Milan shot-stopper on the ball, and this ended in a misplaced pass that picked up by Vinicius Jr. inside their own penalty box. Although Benzema had shouted out for a foul, the striker still ended up netting the equalizer nonetheless.
In the aftermath, Pochettino’s men were seen to be total disarray as they lost complete control and capitulated iredeemably, conceding twice in the span of two minutes to be bundled unexpectedly out of the tournament. Neymar was quick to raise this issue with Donnarumma, but the Italian was also quick to remind the Brazilian that the latter himself had also erred.
Donnarumma faulted Neymar for the second goal as he was guilty of conceding possession to Luka Modric, which then saw the Croatian icon launching off on a spectacular run before setting up Benzema for the latter’s brace. This was apparently how the argument got heated up, leading to an altercation that almost turned physical, according to the Spanish publication.
Fortunately, other members of the PSG squad were on hand to separate the two before things turned ugly.
