Mock funeral held with cardboard cut-out effigy of Steven Gerrard by Rangers fans in bizarre video shared online

One can never presume to understand the mentality of football fans and the extremes of barriers their psychological aberrations could be pushed to when manic obsession sets in and things can get either really ugly or ludicrously macabre at best.

Some really quirky Rangers fans seemed to have taken the news of Steven Gerrard’s departure more than a tad worse than others and have resorted to extreme means to exorcise their inner demons of supposed rejection, delusion, anger and frustration.

A group of Rangers fans have had their morbid video shared online by rival Celtic supporters as the former actually conducted a ritualistic mock ‘funeral’ with a cardboard life-sized cut-out effigy of the new Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard immaculately-dressed in full suit, complete with a contemporary rock ballad with appropriate lyrics echoing in the background to set the mood.

After the cut-out effigy of the former Rangers gaffer is seen being hand-carried by four males on their shoulders out of what appears to be a bar, preceded by a lady wearing a Balenciaga blue scarf like a coffin at a funeral, into a backyard garden setting, the lady proceeds to utter something garbled and before the words ‘We are Rangers, we will move on…!’ are heard pronounced defiantly.

Upon the proclamation of the final words, the men immediately lower the ‘body’ of their former gaffer and proceed to jump and stamp on it with total disrespect whilst laughing loudly in mock derision.

Although this is something that could be slotted into the ‘X-Files’, it is still a trifle awkward and un-kosher to see this kind of behavior from folks who only a short while ago, before the ex Liverpool legend quit as their manager, had the highest respect for someone they obviously regarded as their benefactor and hero.

Their frustration is totally understandable but it does send some shivers down the spine to see the reaction of these fans being oddly manifested in such a morbid ritual invoking ‘death’.

The video certainly needs to be seen to be believed.
