Euros 2020’s breakout star Mikkel Damsgaard is flying high this summer with his inspiring performances for Denmark, notching 2 impressive goals and an assist and has certainly caught the attention of some of Europe’s leading clubs, with Real Madrid now reportedly stepping up their interest in the pursuit of the talented left-winger.
Damsgaard’s incredible Euros 2020 campaign with Denmark has resulted in him being placed in the crosshairs of Liverpool, Everton, Leeds, Leicester City, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus, including Real Madrid’s La Liga rivals, Barcelona. To beat their El Classico opponents in the race to sign Damsgaard, Real Madrid are willing to pay $59 million, reported Spanish outlet El Gol Digital.
Securing the deal for Damsgaard might not be a plain-sailing task for Real Madrid as Sampdoria are allegedly not looking to offload their young star in the ongoing transfer window. The Serie A club plans to sell him next summer as it believes Damsgaard’s value could go up after another good season with clubs hopefully recovering financially, according to soccer website Caughtofffside.
Damsgaard moved from his boyhood club FC Nordsjaelland to Sampdoria in the summer of 2020. Although managing only two goals and four assists in his 35 matches in Serie A, the left-winger was impressive with his carefree approach and versatility allowing him to adapt easily to any role in attack and midfield to trouble opposition defenses.
