With Karim Benzema entering the twilight years of his career, Real Madrid are well aware of their need to sign a new No 9 and have reportedly set their sights on a 2022 swoop for stunning goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland, with the bigger news being that they have allegedly reached a ‘pact’ with Borussia Dortmund to facilitate a transfer in 18 months’ time.
Haaland is apparently top of their wishlist and AS are reporting that 2022 is the year they want to bring the Norwegian to the Bernabeu, with the club already laying the groundwork for a supposedly agreed pact with Borussia Dortmund – via Haaland’s agent – to finalise the deal in a year and a half.
Martin Odegaard, friend of Haaland and fellow Norwegian international, will also be recruited to help seal the move besides convincing the Dortmund star that his future lies with the Los Blancos.
AS write that Madrid are becoming more convinced of Haaland’s talent ‘with every day that passes’, and the club believe he is Robert Lewandowski’s successor in terms of goals in the European leagues.
Real are reported to be in a strong position to seal the deal, but are wary of the threat posed by Manchester United, who are known to also hold a strong interest in signing the 20-year-old from even last season.
This season itself Haaland has notched 16 goals in 15 games for club and country, failing to score in only three Borussia Dortmund matches.
This week the wunderkind netted a brace against Club Brugge in the Champions League, and is on a four-game scoring streak heading into the weekend.
