Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have long been considered two of the greatest players in the world, with the former winning six and latter five Ballon d’Or awards
Despite still marshaling incredible performances on the pitch and still playing a pivotal part in Barcelona and Juventus’ success, both players are now beginning to enter the twilight of their careers.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was asked to pick between the two – and promptly selected the Barca legend, with positive things to say about both stars.
When asked the age-old question during a Q&A session for Hyundai, Lampard said:
“I’m gonna go Messi on this on pure, natural talent but what Ronaldo has done has been absolutely incredible.”
The Chelsea boss, 42, also went on to reveal the names of the two toughest players he ever came up against in his stirling playing career.
“The two that I name when I say against is Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta at Barcelona,” he added. “They were great players, they were kind of not the biggest and quite slight.
“It just shows it doesn’t matter, because sometimes people think you have to be huge to be a footballer player. You don’t.
Finally, Lampard was asked to name players for a dream team of former opponents.
No points for guessing correctly but of course Messi and Ronaldo made the side, but not Xavi and Iniesta.
“It’s [Manuel] Neuer, Rio [Ferdinand], Steven Gerrard, [Zinedine] Zidane, Ronaldinho, Messi and Ronaldo,” the Chelsea boss said.
There, now you have it all from another horse’s mouth.
