Ronald Koeman’s awkward dilemma as Barcelona Presidential candidate Font issues clear ominous warning

To fans of football clubs in the UK the very idea of a club holding elections to appoint a president seems ludicrous, but in Spain it’s a common practice embraced by all.

The Real Madrid elections of the 2000’s were always entertaining as each candidate lined up to promising they would sign various world stars, despite it being obvious that they probably couldn’t keep their promises.

The situation looks no different with Barcelona in their ensuing dire situation and things could look pretty awkward, if not an absolute nightmare both the club and incoming new boss of the Blaugrana, Ronald Koeman, in the prelude to their upcoming elections as the presidential candidate Victor Font has issued an ominous warning up front that he has his own plans regarding the post of head coach for Barcelona.

To actually voice his disapproval of Koeman’s appointment is a clear and present danger to the Dutchman, regardless of whether one may feel Font’s thinking is short sighted or otherwise, as Koeman’s track record as a coach isn’t exactly exemplary. Although there are already pundits from the media at this early juncture who choose to differ from the presidential candidate’s approach, kudos still to him for having the honesty and the integrity to voice his opinions even at this early juncture, wanting only the best for the club.

Barcelona are crying out for a popular coach who stays in the job for a few years and guides them back towards the things they pride themselves on – playing good football, developing young players and winning trophies.

If the hopeful new president-in-waiting decides to throw the incumbent president’s decision to the wind, it could only augur well for a Barcelona that’s long been waiting for much firmer, resolute heads to helm the Blaugrana.
