Real Madrid were crowned La Liga champion for the first time since 2017, winning it for a record 34th time with one match remaining, after defeating Villarreal 2–1.
Real took the lead through Karim Benzema in 29 minutes before he scored his second goal through a penalty spot.
With 86 points, the triumph was even more meaningful as rivals Barcelona were beaten 2-1 at home to Osasuna.

The return of Zinedine Zidane is simply a masterstroke. He turned a catastrophic team to a title-winning side in just one year at the helm.
While it was a roller coaster ride throughout the season, Zidane masterminded Real to 10 consecutive league win since the season resumed after the COVID-19 outbreak.
“To return after spending three months locked in our homes and to win 10 matches in a row is incredible, but I always believed in my team and knew we could win it,” said Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
