Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United have two world class players

Man United have been indeed a repository for world-class players in the past but after sticking to his guns in defending David de Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world, Solskjaer now says United have two world-class players in the wake of United’s latest win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says with pride that Manchester United have at least two world-class players in the form of the resurgent Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

Pogba, 27, returned for his first appearance in 176 days at Tottenham last week and made his first start since September 30 in the 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Wed night.

Rashford, 22, had been sidelined with an aggravated back injury on January 15 but was back in the line-up in excellent form at Spurs and again against the Blades on Wednesday night, creating two of Anthony Martial’s brilliant hattrick goals.

Solskjaer had earlier in the season enhanced the United squad with the £68million addition of Bruno Fernandes, an acquisition that has been well justified, and he says Pogba is the best judge of how United have developed since the start of the campaign.

“With so many players back fit now, everybody can see the quality we have in our ranks,” Solskjaer said in the matchday programme.

“The players who came on at Spurs made a difference, which shows you the level of competition we’ve got in the squad now.

“Even before lockdown we were on a strong run of form. Now we’re able to call upon world-class players like Paul and Marcus returning from injury.

“Paul could tell you more than most about our evolution, because the team he’s rejoining now is a different team to the one that started the season. Our development is there for all to see.”

Rashford has 19 goals this season whilst Pogba had been restricted to nine appearances prior to the visit of Sheffield United but has been on the resurgence since his return. His penetrating raid won the penalty that allowed Fernandes to equalise at Spurs.
