When Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Borussia Dortmund in 2015, many European giants were interested with him. Giants like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, not just Liverpool. But Mexico national team wanted him too? Now that is ambitious.
Former Mexico sporting director Guillermo Cantu revealed that he did officially asked about it to Klopp, but he politely turned down the offer.
“I asked through a third party if he’d be interested in the Mexican national team and the message back was, ‘I appreciate it, many thanks, but I still have a lot to do in club football and I want to go to England,'” said Cantu in an interview with TUDN via Instagram Live.
Based on Klopp answer at the time, he may have been approached by Liverpool. And it’s probably the right choice.
He went on to build one of the greatest Liverpool side, winning the sixth Champions League title, and could win the Premier League title this season.
While Mexico appointed Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio, who helped Mexico qualified to 2018 World Cup Round of 16 in Russia.
It would certainly be interesting if Klopp managed a national team. Could he win the World Cup?
