Chelsea have reportedly made an offer for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes with a loan to buy option, Sky Sport reports.
The London club believed to have offered an 18-month loan with an obligation to buy for £55 million.
The offer also include the playing time, as Gedson needs to play at least 50 per cent of games during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.
It looks like they are hijacking West Ham, whom currently in negotiations with Benfica with a similar offer of an 18-month loan, but The Hammers only willing to pay for £33 million.
It was a far cry to Gedson’s current release clause, which set at £102 million but Benfica believed to accept a much lower fee for a player who is out of favour and is reported to have fallen out with head coach Bruno Lage.
It was also reported that the midfielder is believed to favor a move to the Premier League and his preferred destination is understood to be London for family reasons.
Gedson made his debut with Benfica in 2018 and has since been an integral part to the Portuguese champion side.
He played 13 times in all competition this season, but only started twice in the league and came off the bench seven times.
With the arrival of Julian Weigl for €20 million from Borussia Dortmund, it only makes sense to for Gedson to leave the club.
