It has been 10 years since Marco Reus playing in Bundesliga, but his determination to perform his best for the club and his desire to win the league has never fade every season.
Despite missing out from winning Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich for only two points last season, he is back with Borussia Dortmund to try to win the league for real this time around.
“You have to set yourself ambitious goals. Before the season we said we wanted to be champions because we wanted that, it came from the team and we had that feeling, there was nothing else to say than we want to be German champions.
“With this squad you can’t set yourself any other goal and it should always be the goal to get the best you can from a season and hopefully the title will be the result.”
Reus joined Borussia Monchengladbach in 2009 as 20-year-old before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2012, where he stays until now.
In his first season with Dortmund, he was part of the squad that finished second in Bundesliga and runners-up in Champions League final.
Since then, he has won DFL Supercup in 2013, 2014 and 2019 as well as DFB-Pokal in 2016-2017.
The 30-year-old also won numerous individual accolades, including Bundesliga Top Assist, Bundesliga Team of the Season, Bundesliga Breakthrough of the Season and Bundesliga Player of the Season.
Even if it has been 10 years, he always remember his debut in Bundesliga as well as his remarkable moment with Dortmund.
“My first Bundesliga game is something I’ll always remember, just like my first Bundesliga goal. With Dortmund there have been countless moment.
“These are moments which you should keep in mind because these are positive things and that’s important in this world.”
As Reus progress through the years in Bundesliga, he thinks a lot of things has changed, especially his hairstyle.
“I think, physically and in terms of my appearance, a lot has changed but that’s normal.
“You think that your haircut for example is really fashionable and then a few years later you see a picture of yourself and think what was I doing? I think that’s true of everyone.
I’m happy to have been part of these past ten years and they have influenced me in certain ways.”
