Malaysia open 2018 campaign with Mongolia friendly

Malaysia national team will open their 2018 campaign with the friendly against Mongolia at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on 22 March.

The match will be the final test for newly-appointed coach Tan Cheng Hoe ahead of the team’s final Asian Cup qualifying Group B match against Lebanon on 27 March in Beirut.

Cheng Hoe replaced former coach Nelo Vingada after the Portuguese resigned in December due to a string of poor results.

Under Vingada, Malaysia were drawn one and lost six of their seven games. Last month, the Tigers stumbled to the 174th position in the FIFA rankings.

Taking over the post from Vingada, Cheng Hoe has almost a year to prepare for AFF Cup, which is the highest target of the national team in 2018.
