Johor DT announce return of Gonzalo Cabrera

Reigning Malaysia Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta’azim have announced the return of Gonzalo Cabrera to officially complete their squad for the 2018 M-League season.

The move was announced via the second part of JDT’s teaser video for their jersey launch, which was uploaded on Johor Southern Tigers’ Facebook page earlier this evening.

Towards the end of the video, Luciano Figueroa asks Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim about Johor DT’s fifth foreign signing, before Cabrera appears out of a luxury car, to the surprise of everyone within the frame of that video.

While unclear at the moment, speculation suggests that Cabrera has been snapped up to fill in their Asian quota for foreign players after supposedly receiving his Syrian citizenship in recent weeks.

Nonetheless, his return will undoubtedly be a timely boost for JDT, ahead of their Community Shield bout against Kedah in Johor Bahru tomorrow night. Last season, Cabrera bagged 19 goals in 35 appearances for the Southern Tigers, besides also claiming five assists throughout his tenure in Malaysia.

He will now join Marcos Antonio (Brazil), Jorge Pereyra Diaz (Argentina), Luciano Figueroa (Argentina) and Hariss Harun (Singapore) to officially complete Ulisses Morais’ legion of foreign stars for the new season.
